The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian

by Sherman Alexie

Overview:
Junior is a kid with problems. He was born with too much cerebral spinal fluid, he started having seizures, and he developed a stutter and a lisp. His family is poor. His whole community is poor. He’s from the Spokane Indian Reservation. But he’s determined to break the cycle of poverty. He switches schools and enrolls in the public school in the farm town just off the reservation. He’s the only Indian in the school, aside from the mascot. Getting there’s tough. Staying there’s tougher.
